Ms. Fairchild received her LL.B. from the University of Ottawa in 2004. She also has a B.A. (in Geography and Russian) from Carleton University. She was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 2005, and to the Law Society of Nunavut in 2010.
Since 2010 she has worked as a criminal defence lawyer for the Legal Services Board of Nunavut (LSBN), based first in Cambridge Bay, and then later in Iqaluit. Since April 2015 she has been Lead Criminal Counsel at Maliganik Tukisiniarvik Legal Services in Iqaluit, managing a criminal practice in which she is one of 10 LSBN staff criminal lawyers defending every kind of criminal charge, as well as conducting some appeals. Ms. Fairchild also has prior experience as a criminal law research lawyer for LAO Law (Legal Aid Ontario), as defence counsel in private practice in Toronto, and as an assistant crown attorney.
Ms. Fairchild currently serves as Vice-President of the Law Society of Nunavut and as the Nunavut Council Member for the Federation of Law Societies.
