Lucie Joncas obtained her Law degree in 1991 from the Université de Sherbrooke and her Masters degree in Health Law in 2001. She has been in private practice for twenty-four years mainly in the field of Criminal and Mental Health Law.
Her practice consists of both trial and appelate work and has experience in long and complexe cases. Ms Joncas has appeared before all levels of Court in Quebec and Ontario and also the Supreme Court of Canda (R. v. Kouri, as amicus curiae in R. v. Lavigne, in R. v. Mabior and in R. v. D.C.)
Ms Joncas was Chair of the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies (CAEFS 2007-2010). She was the President (2005-2007) of the Quebec Defence Attorneys Association (A.Q.A.A.D.) and was a director of the Montreal Defence Attorneys Association (A.A.D.M.) for several years. She has been involved in many Quebec Bar Committees and taught Crminal Advocacy at the Bar Admission course for ten years. She was the President of the Haute-Yamaska Suicide Prevention Centre and has lectured at several conferences in Canada and abroad in the criminal and mental health fields: Internantion Academy of Law and Mental Health; Canadien psychiatric Association; World Congress on Medical Law; Société des médecins experts du Québec; Quebec Bar Convention; National Judicial Institute; provincial Judges Regional Training Program; Congrès international francophones sur les agressions sexuelles; Criminal Lawyers Association; national Criminal Law Program; First Annual Symposium on HIV, Law & Human Rights. She has represented the Quebec Bar before the Permanent Justice Committee and the Senate permanent Committee on Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
