John enjoys writing on various legal topics. He has published articles and presented papers at provincial and national Legal Education Seminars. His involvement in the Canadian Bar Association has included the Task Force on Reform of the Criminal Code, the Legal Aid Liaison Committee and the Saskatchewan Criminal Justice Section, serving the latter two as Chair.

John is a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Council of Criminal Defence Lawyers and he has served on the Executive of its Saskatchewan affiliate as President. He enjoys coaching hockey and singing with the Studio Singers of Regina. John practices primarily in the fields of criminal and civil litigation.
